Renouer: the problem, the method, the outlook
One adult in four lives through family estrangement. Your adult child has cut off contact — or almost. Immense pain, shame, loneliness: this is « ambiguous loss », a pain that does not close because the person is alive but absent. Spontaneous attempts (messages, calls, reproaches) almost always fail and make the distance worse.
A 6-module method based on research (Cornell, Coleman, Boss) to understand what happened, let go of anger, change perspective, write a letter of amends that rings true, and re-establish contact without forcing it.
81% of children eventually reconnect with their mother, 69% with their father. Renouer means rebuilding a new relationship — or, if the door stays closed, living at peace with the situation instead of a life suspended on grief.

The NVC programme: the problem, the method, the outlook
Most conflicts do not come from a real opposition, but from poor communication: reproaches, unspoken words, needs never expressed. We replay the same sentences, the same tensions, without understanding why.
The OFNR method (Observation, Feeling, Need, Request): speaking without reproach, naming what you feel, identifying the hidden need, making clear requests — and hearing, behind the other person's anger or silence, the need they are trying to protect.
A lasting skill, reusable everywhere: with your child, but also your partner, your colleagues, your teams. Move through today's crisis — and stop recreating the same patterns tomorrow.
Assessment and starting stance
Understanding the mechanisms underlying violence in relationships is the first step towards defusing it. This module introduces the fundamental metaphors of NVC to help you identify your dominant style. You will learn to recognise your triggers without judging yourself, simply by observing your reactions.
Observing without judging
The first step in the OFNR process is observation. Knowing how to distinguish a plain fact from its interpretation is the key to avoiding misunderstandings. This module teaches you to make your language neutral in order to create common ground for discussion.
Naming your feelings
We experience emotions, but often have a limited vocabulary for expressing them. This module develops your emotional precision. It helps you distinguish what you genuinely feel from what you think about the other person, thereby fostering self-empathy.
Identifying your needs
Needs are the driving force behind our emotions. Understanding the categories of universal needs allows you to move from complaint to request. This module helps you connect what you feel to a fundamental need, distinguishing the need from the strategy for meeting it.
Making requests
Once you have identified the need, you need to express it as a clear request. This module teaches you to construct requests that are concrete, positive, and negotiable. The task is to distinguish a request from a demand by accepting the other person’s right to say “no”.
Empathic listening and integration
NVC is not limited to expressing yourself; it also includes listening to others. This final module teaches you to receive difficult messages without being swept up in aggression. You will integrate assertiveness and empathy for lasting, healthy communication in relationships.
