For parents separated from their adult child

The bond is not lost.
It is waiting to be reconnected.

Your adult child has cut off contact, or almost. The pain is immense, the shame isolating. Renouer is a programme founded on scientific research to support you, step by step, as you try to re-establish contact — with clarity, method and total compassion.

No miracle promises. An honest method, drawn from Cornell’s work and the world’s leading specialists.

You think you are the only one. The figures say otherwise.

1 in 4
More than one adult in four is living through family estrangement — a « silent epidemic ».
Cornell national survey, K. Pillemer
26 %
of young adults report estrangement from their father, 6 % from their mother.
Reczek et al., JMF, 2022
4+ years
Half of those who are estranged have had no contact at all for four years or more.
Cornell Reconciliation Project

A method, not a promise.

They drifted away. The thread broke.

And you never stopped thinking about them. A pain that research names: ambiguous loss.

This is not a full stop.

The work of Cornell, Coleman and Boss shows that dialogue reopens through precise gestures — and through a change of perspective.

A thread is re-woven, knot by knot.

Six modules. Each one brings you closer, never doing you violence. At your own pace, without illusory promises.

Sadness, finally acknowledged.

Putting down the weight of anger, shame and grief begins by acknowledging the sadness hidden underneath. That is the path Renouer walks with you, step by step.

The programme

Six modules, like six knots on a single thread.

A progressive 8 to 12 week pathway, at your own pace. The order matters: you do not write the letter before letting go of anger, you do not re-establish contact before changing how you see the story.

Weeks 1–2 · Understanding

Putting words to what is happening to you

You are not alone, you are not a monster, and you are not a “failed” parent. This module replaces shock with understanding: what you are experiencing has a name, follows known patterns, and affects millions of families. Understanding does not heal, but we cannot repair what we do not understand.

Weeks 3–4 · Letting go

Letting go of anger, shame, and the need to be right

This module may feel like a detour: you want to act, write, call. The research is clear: attempts made in the heat of the moment, driven by anger or a sense of injustice, almost always fail, and every failed attempt makes the next one harder. Let go first, act afterwards.

Weeks 5–6 · Changing perspective

Seeing the story through your child’s eyes

The most demanding module in the programme, and the strongest predictor of success. The parents who reconnect are not those who were right: they are those who managed to find the kernel of truth in their child’s grievances without falling apart or arguing their case. Take your time here. Everything else depends on it.
